Waizeh Solonka
Director.
Director of AJAR Kenya and a qualified lawyer, holding an LLB from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. She has been part of AJAR’s work since 2022, walking closely with people held in pretrial detention and advocating for justice for those who are often unseen and unheard.
At the heart of Waizeh’s leadership is a deep commitment to justice that restores dignity. She has led and shaped AJAR’s legal empowerment clinics, capacity-building initiatives, and direct legal support for remand prisoners who cannot afford or access legal representation. As Director, she provides strategic and spiritual leadership, guiding AJAR’s programmes, partnerships, and advocacy while stewarding a faith-driven organisational culture committed to mercy, accountability, and systemic change.

Kennedy Kitonga
Legal associate.
Ken is a distinguished High Court advocate and is widely recognized for his expertise in criminal law. With a deep understanding of the Kenyan justice system, he delivers comprehensive legal solutions. Ken holds degrees from Kampala International University and the Kenya School of Law. He blends extensive experience with a commitment to securing fair and efficient outcomes for his clients. As an adept practitioner, he offers tailored services to meet diverse legal needs, ensuring clients receive personalized attention and effective representation.

Maureen Mbelete
Maureen is a dedicated advocate with over twelve years of legal experience, including ten as a Prosecution Counsel at Kenya’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). At AJAR, she leverages her prosecutorial expertise to provide free legal aid and representation to wrongfully accused pretrial detainees, helping ensure fair and compassionate support during critical times. Her focus areas include criminal defense, litigation management, legal due diligence, and compliance. Driven by the belief that justice is a right, Maureen is committed to defending the vulnerable and upholding accountability in Kenya’s justice system.

Chris Arnold
Co-founder.
Chris Arnold is a co-founder of AJAR Kenya, a role that aligns naturally with his lifelong commitment to social justice and development. With extensive experience working with social enterprises, Chris is passionate about unlocking the God-given potential in individuals. He is deeply dedicated to ending the criminalisation of poverty—where people are imprisoned not because they are guilty, but simply because they are poor.

Adrian Palmer
Director & Acting Chair of AJAR Kenya.
Adrian is a leader and elder at Renewal Church. He qualified as an actuary in the UK and has led international schools in Kenya and Tanzania. Adrian has been involved with AJAR since it's inception, providing strategic direction and financial oversight.

Wambui Ng'ang'a
Legal Manager
Wambui Ng’ang’a is the Legal Manager at AJAR Kenya and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She holds an LL.B from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
She brings experience from private practice and the banking sector, with expertise in litigation, legal advisory, governance, and compliance. At AJAR, she oversees case management and supports legal empowerment initiatives for persons in remand and strengthens internal legal systems and volunteer capacity.
She driven by a commitment to access to justice, ethical leadership, and using the law as a tool for dignity, accountability, and lasting social impact.
